Card blocked abroad: how to avoid it and what to do if it happens
You're in another country, you pay with your card and it's declined. Anti-fraud systems often block purchases they consider unusual, especially abroad.
How to prevent it
Before you travel
Tell your bank your dates and destinations if possible, check the card is enabled for international purchases and review your limits.
Carry a plan B
Keep a second card or some cash stored separately in case one fails.
What to do if it happens
If it gets blocked
Contact the bank through the app or by phone, confirm the purchases are yours and ask them to unblock it.
If there are charges you don't recognise
Ask for an immediate block, open a claim and keep records of the transactions.
A simpler way to check your trip
To check that the amounts of your bookings match what you're charged, upload your confirmations to AuditorTravel: it flags what doesn't add up with a traffic light (๐ข ๐ก ๐ด) before you travel.
You pay once per trip, it's not a subscription you have to remember to cancel.
