An impossibly good price usually means the place doesn't exist, isn't available on those dates, or simply isn't what the photos show.
You're asked to move the conversation or payment off-platform
"I'll give you a better price if you pay by transfer" is the most common line in this scam. If the payment isn't recorded on Airbnb or Booking, you have zero protection if something goes wrong.
Few reviews, or generic ones
A listing with no history, or with short comments that never mention specific details of the place, deserves a closer look before you book.
The host avoids specific questions
Ask something specific about the place (which floor, whether there's an elevator, what the entrance looks like) and see if the answer is concrete or vague and evasive.
How to verify it before you pay
Search the photos on Google Images or Google Lens
If the same photos show up in another listing, at a different price or in a different city, that's an immediate red flag.
Locate the address or area on the map
Confirm the area shown matches what the description promises (close to a certain landmark, a certain number of blocks from another).
Always pay within the platform
It's the only way to have real protection if the place doesn't exist or doesn't match what was listed. Airbnb and Booking have refund policies for these cases, but only if the payment went through them.
